Easy Slices, Stable, Precise
Blade Change a bit tricky
Restaurant-level performance and quality that is apparent from the moment you use it
OXO is known for their simple and sleek kitchen products, all of which aim to provide a modern aesthetic, backed by excellent performance, durability, and ease of use. The OXO Good Grips Mandoline Slicer is no exception, and has been a favorite on the market for several years now.
It’s easy to see why. This slicer is efficient and precise, and offers a stable operation that makes it feel like it belongs in a professional kitchen. With that said, this model is a bit pricier than a lot of other mandolines similar in size and features. So is the extra money worth it? We’d say so.
The Good Grips Mandoline Slicer is a manual mandoline, and works just like any other. This includes the option to hold the vegetable as you rake it across the blade, or opt for the textured holder that gives you safer spacing between the vegetable and your hand.
The mandoline’s deck and blades are forged from high-quality stainless steel, with a black metal body and legs. A rear handle provides a comfortable and soft grip, as does the food holder. No-slip grips are used on the legs to keep the mandoline in place when used on a counter.
The blade width is 6.5 inches, which is definitely large enough to handle most any veggie or produce. You also get two different julienne slice sizes, and two different waffle cut designs. Blades are changed by pulling it out from the side, and rotating.
The thickness of the cut is controlled using a dial on the side of the body, and you can choose from varying thickness levels, all the way down to 1/8th of an inch. When you’re done cutting, the blades can be removed for easy cleaning, and you can fold the legs down for flat storage.
The Good Grips Mandoline Slicer has a very stable and solid feel, which is a combination of its design and materials. You always feel totally in control, and the cuts are always even, precise, and easy, regardless of what you’re chopping up.
And while aesthetics don’t really matter with a mandoline, it definitely has a modern look that only adds to its appeal. Adjustments to the thickness are always easy, and the dial is clearly labeled with each size.
The pulling out of the blade to change the style of cuts can be a little difficult at first, but once you do it a few times, you’ll have the process down fairly easily.
Keep in mind that this mandoline is 17 inches long and 7.9 inches wide, so make sure you have the room in your drawer or pantry for it before ordering.
Although a little pricier than other mandolines, the OXO Good Grips Mandoline Slicer offers restaurant-level performance and quality that is apparent from the moment you use it. Its solid build, multiple cutting choices, and comfortable grip all come together to make this ones of the best mandolines you can buy.
